Wake Up and Nourish Coffee Smoothie

Rise and shine or…

Wake up and nourish!

I’m typically a green smoothie girl, but this smoothie is so incredibly good (and nourishing) that lately it’s the only way to go for me. It’s my current favorite and I just can’t stop making it. Plus it’s a delicious way to get your coffee and breakfast down in one glass, saving time and energy. I’ll get my greens in later!

It’s got some powerhouse ingredients, so it can definitely qualify for breakfast. Plus, you’re beginning your day with a boost for both your metabolism and energy! I’ve got you covered in the protein department too.

Use the highest quality coffee you can afford, preferably organic and fair trade. Coffee is rich with antioxidants, so if you stick with organic (and just one cup) you can count this coffee as “good for you”. This recipe calls for protein powder, because protein is a non-negotiable for breakfast! I use hemp protein, but you can use whatever protein powder you prefer. I choose hemp because hemp is one of those super-foods I’m just obsessed with, since it contains the perfect ratio of omega 3’s and 6’s, is full of nutrients and contains all 20 amino acids. Ground flax is also rich in omega 3’s and supplies plenty of fiber. Coconut oil is a great metabolism and energy booster, made of medium chain fatty acids which convert easily to energy! Definitely a “healthy” fat! Add a frozen banana for a good dose of nutrients and creamy texture, some almond milk, ice, and you’re good to go! A delicious new addition to your morning routine!
